Year 1 did an investigation on which numbers they could not halve and then put them in the pot. We used halving mats and our knowledge of 2s numbers and odd and even. As you can see we found quite a range of numbers!
Point for your perfect partner!
We are excellent at helping each other read and pointing with our Fred pointers for our partner. You could even try this at home pointing with something special like a fairy wand or the end of a pencil.
Mental maths
This week in mental maths we will be practising counting forwards and backwards to 100. We are finding counting back from 100 challenging, so we are practising as much as we can! Can you help at home practising backwards from different numbers up to 100?
Here is a 100 square to help.
Reading for enjoyment
We have been practising our reading and comprehension skills in Guided Reading. We all enjoyed completing our different reading activities…
We enjoyed reading and sharing picture books independently with our friends in the story corner.
We enjoyed sharing the books we took home over the holidays. We discussed whether we liked our book and what we liked about it, what happened in our story and the characters and setting. After we choose a new book to take home.
We enjoyed reading to our class teachers looking at non-fiction books together; especially finding out more about animals.
Finally, we enjoyed retrieving information from our non-fiction book to write facts about snails.
To me to you
We have been practising lots of different skills today in PE. We have been learning how it is important to warm up to get our body ready for exercise. We played different warm up games to get ready for our learning.
After warming up we practised our throwing and catching skills. We used our working together key to throw a ball or bean bag to our partner. Finally we played a game to see who could get the bean bag into the hoop the most.
Fantastic!!!!
We have been practising our amazing partner work and reading in RWI. We have been challenging ourselves to read more words without our Fred talk and praising our partners for their fantastic reading.
Computer Art.
In computing today we have been using 2Simple Paint to create pictures on the laptops. We have found it tricky to draw as we need to press the button and move the mouse pad at the same time.
It became EVEN harder when we had to save our image, but we will practise this lots more over the year.
Chinese New Year
Year 1 have been busy practicing for their assembly about Chinese New Year.
The assembly will take place tomorrow at 9.00am in the hall. You are welcome to attend.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Reading fiction and non fiction
Today we were talking about the differences between fiction (stories) and non fiction ( information) books. As you can see we really enjoy both and we love our new animal books that tell us lots of information. See if you have any non fiction books at home so you can learn about new things together!
